Salt and Light Evangelism

Superman has Lex Luthor. Cinderella has a wicked stepmother and stepsisters. Luke has Vader.
Why do all great stories have a nemesis? Because the world is not as it should be. Good is opposed by evil and light must contend with the powers of darkness, as it did in Narnia. The witch’s spell was cold and dark, yet the arrival of Aslan brought light and warmth.
In the same way Jesus came to bring light and life to the world that his nemesis Satan is intent on destroying. In the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus says:
“You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.” Matthew 5:14-16
Jesus’ plan for defeating evil is for his followers to let our loving deeds shine brightly in this dark world.
